Local Businessman Set to Open “The Bunker,” a World-Class Golf Simulator and Lounge
Guilderland Location Will Offer All-Weather, Year-Round Golfing Experience in Private, Club-like Setting
Guilderland, NY (July 9, 2019) – It will be tee time year round for Capital Region golfers when local businessman Troy Miller completes the finishing touches on “The Bunker,” a World-Class golf simulator and subterranean clubhouse opening this fall at 2390 Western Avenue in Guilderland.
Many golfers are familiar with simulator golf, but primarily through sub-par experiences with cheap machines presented in drab, warehouse-like settings. In contrast, The Bunker’s luxurious environment will feature some of the widest screens in the industry and leading-edge simulator technology.
The golf experience and instruction at The Bunker will be supervised and supported by local golf pro Jeff Betti (current-head pro at Orchard Creek; former assistant-pro at Albany Country Club). Betti is a certified TrackMan® trainer and is assisting Miller in selecting the optimal technology.
At The Bunker, the simulators are designed to surround a gorgeous central bar, lending the feel of an exclusive private club.
“I wanted to replicate the entire experience of an afternoon of golf,” said Miller, “including the ‘19th Hole’ camaraderie that friends enjoy in a beautiful, high-end setting.”
To achieve this, Miller enlisted the talents of Sam Madia, a highly regarded local designer, to create a truly unique space immersed in luxury and detail. Madia’s design evokes the best features of famous cigar bars and iconic golf clubhouses. Design elements include mahogany, polished brass, fabric wall treatments, a coffered ceiling, fine leather chairs, plush rugs, and a
replica of the iconic “Butler Cabin” fireplace (as seen at The Masters Tournament).
“Our goal was to create an emotional reaction when people first enter The Bunker. The quality of the simulator golf will be world-class, and we wanted to make sure that the physical clubhouse and bar features were also capable of delivering that ‘wow’ moment,” Miller said.
Construction at The Bunker is on pace, and a late-September opening is expected.
