Lettermen Foundation Increases Donation to GCSD’s Weekend Backpack Program

The Guilderland Lettermen Foundation is once again proud to be able to support the Guilderland Central School’s Weekend Backpack Program. This is the fifth straight year the Foundation has partnered with the Backpack Program to support Guilderland students. In recognition of the significant challenges families are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation has doubled its contribution for 2020.

Guilderland’s Weekend Backpack program was developed by Guilderland business teacher Joan McGrath and social worker Heidi Cutler. In part through Lettermen support, Guilderland is a member of the Regional Food Bank’s weekly Backpack program, which has a stated goal to “help alleviate child hunger by discreetly providing hungry children with backpacks full of nutritious and easy-to-prepare food on Friday afternoons so they have food to eat throughout the weekend.

Partnership with the Regional Food Bank allows the Guilderland program access to reduced-price volume purchases of the food and supplies it requires to meet student needs.

The success of the Lettermen Foundation, which allows us to support our Guilderland High School student-athletes through the Lettermen Awards, 12-Season Awards and our community through various programs, can be attributed to the many loyal golfers who participate in the Guilderland Classic golf outing (this year, Aug. 7 at Orchard Creek) and our fantastic sponsors including

CAP COM Federal Credit Union,
CM Fox Real Estate
Capital Financial Planning Charitable Foundation
Pioneer Bank
Sheriff Craig D.Apple Sr.
The Passineau Family,
The Bunker,
The GHS Class of 1981,
Tim Vottis and the GHS Class of 1982, and
Todd Shatynski, MD.

We thank these and all our sponsors who allow us to support those in our community who, especially now, need a helping hand.
